My guess is because he couldn’t fit the transmission and engine there without lengthening the bed. I’m sure his plan was to eventually cut up another S10 bed and fill the gap. I guess he ran with the mantra of getting the engine as far back as possible while still using a FR drivetrain. I’ve seen a few other similar homemade drag setups.
